8 on the 8th

Nancy put together another fabulous virtual blogger race and I was sadden because I just knew I couldn't do 8 miles yet...

OH REAALLLLLY?!! Then who was that running 8.53 miles this morning? Oh yeah me. And seriously this was supposed to be a slow easy run, so I figured maybe a 10 minute pace, but I actualy maintained at 9:30 pace and probably could have kept going, no need to be too greedy though.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yet another morning where the temp was only 69 degrees, I couldn't believe my luck and my body felt rested and energized. I was excited to just take it easy and see where today lead me. I had no expectations of running 8.5 miles, in fact I really thought I would be luck to make 6 today.
For the start of my run I was listening to the audio book Skinny Bitch. Which it turns out is a boog about going vegan with a lot of cussing involved. So I can now curse like a sailor about the meat industry and have decided that a number of foods are rather disgusting once you realize what's in them.
After about 30 minutes I switched over to my running play list and I think this is part of why I was able to run longer. I was excited by the music after listening to the talk. I also read this great thinig last night which stuck with me:
Be like water.
Have you ever noticed if you try to really force things to happen you often get the opposite result? If you're like water then when you hit a rock or block, you softly move around it and just keep going with the flow of life. You can't grasp water, you have to touch it softly. Well during a run when I started to get tired I'd just think ok be like water and soften up...see what happens and go from there. It worked, so there is one more mental trick to add to my running bag of tricks.

Skinny Bitch is the reason I am now a vegetarian!! Going vegan was a bit too extreme for me...what do you think of the book?

Great job on the 8!

Yep, keep yourself loose and relaxed. I start tightening up as the miles go by but remind myself to loosen up and just flow...LIKE WATER. Good visual!
